Surf City Lifeguards Make Successful Surfside Rescue

12 Passengers Rescued as 26’ Vessel is Grounded at Surfside Colony

SEAL BEACH – At 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2013, Huntington Beach Lifeguards observed a vessel in distress, just outside the surfline approximately 1/3 mile south of the Anaheim Bay east jetty. The vessel was disabled when a rope fouled their propeller. The City Lifeguard vehicle assigned to patrol Sunset Beach responded to Surfside Colony in Seal Beach. As they drove to the scene, an additional City Lifeguard vehicle responded from Huntington Beach Lifeguard Headquarters. The first two City Lifeguards entered the ocean and successfully off loaded all 12 passengers into the ocean before the vessel ran aground. City Lifeguards escorted all passengers safely to shore. Orange County Harbor Patrol arrived on scene at 5:49 p.m. and successfully towed the vessel back out to sea. City Lifeguards transported all passengers off the beach.
