FREE 4th of July Weekend Concert and Woodstock Tribute at OC Market Place

Before the Orange County Market Place closes for the annual Orange County Fair, the weekend swap meet at the O.C. Fair & Event Center, it will offer a free concert over the 4th of July weekend and present its 3rd Annual Woodstock Tribute Weekend, July 9 and 10. All events are free with a canned food donation to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County.

On Sunday, July 3, Journey Tribute band “Don’t Stop Believing” (DSB) will perform at noon and 2 p.m. and concerts will be hosted by K-EARTH 101 FM radio personality “Shotgun Tom” Kelly.

The band is led by vocalist Juan del Castillo, known for sounding like the renowned lead singer Steve Perry of the “real“Journey. Journey has sold over 55 million albums worldwide and continues its reign at the very top of the short list of rock bands whose music has truly stood the test of time. (

Just like the legendary 1969 concert, music and art will be the focus during the 3rd Annual Woodstock Tribute scheduled for July 9 and 10 weekend.

Saturday’s concerts kick off at noon with Woodstock Mud, a San Diego based band appropriately named for the rain stricken historical concert performing a Crosby, Stills and Nash tribute they call Wasted on the Way. Formed in 1990, the band focuses their talent on classic rock from the 1960’s and 70’s with ritual rock anthems like “Woodstock”, “Love The One You’re With” to name a few.

Their set will be followed by another Woodstock band tribute, The Who Revue, at 2 p.m. The Who Revue recreates the sounds, the look, and the energy of The Who at their peak: the power vocals and microphone twirling of Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend’s acrobatic windmills and leaps, Keith Moon’s out-of-control drumming and comical antics, and the thundering bass virtuosity of ‘The Ox’, John Entwistle. Saturday is hosted by K-EARTH 101 FM radio personality Gary Bryan.

On Sunday, July 10 Aquarius ‘68, formerly known as The Summer of Love, will perform at noon and 2 p.m. The six member band not only plays the music of Woodstock but with costume changes and the special talents of its group do various impersonations of the concert legends including Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone and Arlo Guthrie to name a few.

In addition to music, both days will include free face painting, gourmet food trucks, hippie stilt walkers, tie dye vendors, crafters and artisans.

The Orange County Market Place will be closed during the Orange County Fair’s five week run: July 15 through August 14. It reopens the weekend of August 20, with the 12th Annual Elvis Festival set for Sunday, August 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also, qualifying rounds for KaraokeFest 2011, the largest competition of its kind held at the Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona, will be held at the Market Place beginning Saturday, August 20 through Sept. More information is available at or by calling 818-523-9888.
