Huntington Beach Al Fresco Dining Makes People Happy

outdoor diining

Surf City is filled with eats–and what’s really “sweet” is the fact that many of the restaurants feature outdoor dining. You don’t realize just how much you miss it till you visit nearby beaches such as Seal Beach and Newport that surround HB. When you wander down the other Main Streets in the cities north & south, you think to yourself that these near perfect spots would be complete with some tables for outdoor dining.

Huntington Beach hasn’t always been the Mecca of eating outside, but when the concept got approved, it grew and has taken hold firmly around town. Some of the liveliest outdoor dining spots can be found at Sharkeez on Main Street, Aloha Grill 2nd floor patio, and Hurricane’s 2nd story restaurant.

Favorite outdoor tables can be secured if you are willing to wait at BJ’s Pizza, Sugar Shack, Cucina Alessa, Beachfront 301, Coach’s Mediterranean Grill, No Ka Oi, and many more.  Downtown is certainly the hub of outdoor eating and people watching in Huntington Beach.

But if you want a leisurely pace and a meal with your pooch, be sure to check out Park Bench Cafe in Central Park. It’s the dog-owners’ preferred place. You can walk your dog through the shady park, then leash him next to you at your table.

One of the places that would be great to have an outdoor cafe (wind-breaks provided) would Ruby’s at the end of the Huntington Beach Pier. None of the pier Ruby’s restaurants between L.A. and San Diego County offer outdoor seating, but the Ruby’s just south of the Orange County border in Oceanside has a 2nd floor outdoor deck on Oceanside Pier. It is one of the nicest spots to eat outside and watch the ocean. If you’re looking for a great Sunday drive, hop in your car and head to Oceanside Pier for a tasty, affordable meal on the upper deck (weather permitting) of Ruby’s Diner.
