Active Duty Military From HB Featured on Banners As Hometown Heroes

By Chris MacDonald, Writer/Photographer, HB Ambassador/The Local News Columnist

Forty-Three Banners to Honor Huntington Beach Hometown Heroes in the Military are being placed on Main Street from Beach Blvd. to 6th Street as well as Beach Blvd. from PCH to Adams Ave. The banners will be on lightpoles as part of a joint collaboration between The City of Huntington Beach and American Legion Post 133.

It was HB Mayor Joe Carchio’s suggestion to honor the Active Duty Military with a Banner that has their photo and name on it. His nephew is going to be featured on one of the banners.

Linda Miller, Events Director from The Huntington Beach International Surfing Museum, was very pleased to hear about the program. “This is a great idea. We need to honor our military from HB,” Miller said. “They’re protecting us and allowing the freedom we enjoy in America.”

Sponsors pay for the banners, which will be displayed for a minimum of six months and no longer than a year before being retired and given to the hero or his/her family.

Thank you Mayor Carchio for having banners put up to honoring active military members. My son, Richard Anderson does not have a banner has honorably service in the Air Force for almost 8 years now. He is a graduate of Edison High School, class of 2003. Richard has served 2 tours in Iraq and is currently based in Tucson, AZ.

What do I need to leave you to have a banner to honor his service?

A proud Air Force mom and HB resident
