Huntington Beach Pier Great for US Open Surfing Views
Is it any wonder why the US Open of Surfing is such a success? It’s free, it’s fun and you can watch from vantage points on the beach, the sand, the bleachers, and HB Pier. Unlike AVP Pro Beach Volleyball where the organizers began charging for seating and blocked spectator viewing from the pier a few years ago (and now they are facing financial challenges,) the US Open is completely free and paid for through sponsorships so the public can enjoy the beach event as it was meant to be.
You can see the competion sitting in the stands without paying, or you can go to the pier to watch the surfing. On the final days of the surf competition many consider the pier the best place to watch in all of Surf City. And believe it or not, on that final Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, the pier will be full–all 1853 feet of it!
Huntington Beach Pier is not the longest pier in California, but it is one of the most state-of-the-art piers for its design. The concrete pier contains bathrooms, several gift stores selling souvenirs and kites, a fish & tackle shop, and Ruby’s Diner, a two-story restaurant with ocean views. When you come to the US Open, stay for the shopping and food. It’s really good on the HB Pier! Address for mapping: 317 Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beac, CA 92648
