Huntington Beach Based Tyr Buys Office Space in Seal Beach

Surf City’s Tyr Sport Inc. acquired new office space in Seal Beach, doubling the size of its Orange County-based operations. The swimsuit manufacturer known for its line of sleek, competitive swimwear reportedly paid $7 million for a 64,061-square-foot Seal Beach building, in addition to keeping its 63,500-square-foot headquarters in Huntington Beach. Tyr may be set for expansion though company founder & Olympic medalist swimmer Steve Furniss, declined to comment on Tyr’s Seal Beach acquisition. Furniss serves as executive vice president.

On Dec. 8, 2010 Tyr announced it has renewed its agreement as Official Sponsor to the French Swimming Federation (FFN) for swimming, diving, water polo, open water swimming, and synchronized swimming, through the year 2016. TYR has held a successful partnership with the FFN since 2002.

Tyr launched in 1985 and was acquired in 1999 by New York-based Swimwear Anywhere Inc., designers for well known brands such as DKNY, Juicy Couture and Liz Claiborne.

Like the gold medal prize, Tyr filed suit against Speedo for its relationship with USA Swimming which governs the sport of swimming, and Tyr lost when the case went to trial in 2010.

Tyr’s unassuming corporate offices are located in one of several “light” industrial areas of Huntington Beach near Huntington Harbour. Located at 15391 Springdale St., Huntington Beach, the company used to offer an outlet store for local swimmers and swim teams. Swimmers now can find the brand at Sports Chalet on 16242 Beach Blvd. in Huntington Beach, or Sports Authority on Warner & Magnolia in Fountain Valley.
